In this article, we are going to talk about Oculus Quest 2 Wifi speed test you can do at home for free to see if your internet is fast enough for run Air Link or you may need to upgrade your internet and router.
Run The Speed Test First
The 1st step is to test the overall internet speed at your home.
Go to https://www.speedtest.net/ (by Ookla), and just run it and see what speed reading you get.
The best speed we want is at least 50 Mbps - 100 Mbps for VR streaming.
While some users recommend 200 Mbps, 100 Mbps gets the job done for running games via Air Link if you don't have other apps running in the background.
As VR technology improves for higher fidelity VR experiences in the near future, you may need up to 200+ Mbps to stream 12K or higher standard resolution images and videos. Fiber optic internet will be the best option as the VR user base grows.

When To Upgrade Your Wifi Router For VR
If your VR experiences constantly get interrupted by low speed internet, the solution is to upgrade the internet and the strong signal wifi router so you can use the headset at home regardless how far it is away from the router.
You may have good internet, but if the wifi router isn't fast enough to feed data between the PC and the headset, then you may experience VR lag or stutter, which can cause VR sickness.
If you're working with the headset to run virtual desktop, the recommended Oculus Quest 2 virtual desktop wifi speed is at least 5 GHz AC or AX Wi-Fi router wired to the PC.
We recommend using the headset in the same room as the wifi router to receive the strongest wifi connection.
If you like to directly link the Oculus Quest 2 headset to the PC without Air Link, the recommend specs is:
- Windows 7 SP1 64-bit (Windows 10 recommended)
- Nvidia GTX 640 or 980M or ATI HD 7000/Rx 200
- Intel Core i5-2500k or equivalent
